Finally got this out of my system. 'Alps' has been a bit on the back burner for some time now. We shot this over 8 hours in Jamaica Plain and Allston Massachusetts in the summer of 08. The 'story' is the recreation of a nightmare I had. The blindfolded 'alp' character is a mix of Lovecraft and this really eerie 1920's photo I came across of a woman learning to play the piano blindfolded. Though the interesting part for me is now having made this, my dream goes from being an internal item to something we can all view in some manner. It almost feels like when you go from talking to yourself all day to actually saying the words out loud, the thoughts and ideas become something else. They are in the open now and can breathe.

.after watching the Chairlift video via Lumen Eclipse, I had to look further into what this effect was about. The effect that the director Ray Tinori uses for this video is called Datamoshing... which we'll probably start seeing lots more of as the days go by. But in my search for how this is effect is done, I came across another video by Kanye West called "Welcome to heartbreak" (poor little fella). As someone who loves low fi video I was a bit taken back by Kanye West's use of datamoshing. How does Kanye relate to crappy video (as a teen I use to mix vcr to vcr while splicing in cds) when he's talking about how much money he's made in the song? These things do not apply and I can't relate nor do I understand. But Ray's use of datamoshing I feel applies well as his video seems more like a smearing of enjoyable moments rather then a millionaire trying to relate to the people.

.after the american remake of REC (which i couldn't bring myself to watch) another fat fingered hollywood fuck up is on its way. The twist is in the subtitles of 'let the right one in". Which, if you get a chance to see is probably one of the greatest vampire movies to come around. BUT in the american dvd/blu ray, they didn't feel like hiring the same person and paying out X amount. So, to save money on the transfer(not using the same translator for the subtitle files), they(we) got a water down version of the dialogue(cheaper transfer). AND the salt to the wound is MAGNET(distro) doesn't really care. Check out this article(thanks b for the heads up). If you ever get a chance to see the original, do it. right now. the movie is amazing.

.last week I had the opportunity to be part of a project that was being shot after hours inside the Tate Modern. I'm sort of a fanboy for this place, though, I wish they'd get rid of the Dali work. I can't really post what I would really like to say on the subject or the corpse.... but if anyone else feels the same way, check out this paper by Orwell. Anyways, after the shoot, I went off to collect some gear to only discover that the whole crew had left me behind. So there I was, inside turbine hall all by myself. This was one of those quiet happy moments that don't really come by too often. This whole thing turned me on because I would come to this place when I first came to London years ago and was broke as hell. Back then the Tate also introduced me to people like Hans Bellmer, which even today I still really, really enjoy.

.After a few moments of listening to the motors and taking some empty photos, I called a crew member to get me out of there.

.Though, I should have stayed and key'd my initials into some crappy 'alter modern' work. I wonder how many pairs of clothes the emperor really has? Boring.

.so, yesterday I got the chance to be a zombie in the independent feature "Zombie Undead" by Rhys Davies. Luckily enough, I had my own zombie scene involving a bathroom completely covered with blood and my own person pool of blood to sauté in. Rhys and his crew seemed to really be on top of things and knew exactly what they were going for.... which is nice to see when a director, DP and crew just click on things. If anyone gets a chance, check out the film's production blog.

.sitting on the train ride home for 2.5 hours sticky as hell was completely worth it.... and now I know how my friends feel.

Either way, I can't link to them, which means certain webpages don't work. But in other news, Jam sent me a link to Olivier De Sagazan. Amazing. .So, cimpher.com is up and I'm pretty excited about it. I had a lot of help from my friend francis. As you can see it still needs lots of work and as the days pass, I will be adding pages. There are a few video pages I would like to add and the photo section. Anyways. This morning, I'm mailing off the final edit of 'midnight alps' to Chris Green for him to hopefully be inspired to compose some creepy atmosphere for that project. Ok. back to work.

.This morning I got a phone call from the producer of the Gin Riots. She asked if I would interested in editing their music video that was directed by George A Romero.... I was lucky enough to be able to do production design on this project but now I get a chance to mix the video. Life is good.
